A short drive into the canyon brings you from seacoast into rainforest in a few minutes. Jutting 2250 feet into the air, the Iao Needle is a spectacular sight. Down below local children swim and play in the cool Iao Stream surrounded by lush guava and passion fruit trees. A small botanical garden displays indigenous Hawaiian flora. Meander up the steps to get a closer look at the Needle and get some great photos. Many afternoons the Needle can be fogged in so it is best to go early in the day. | |
